Nadia Bourassa of the Kerry Blue Terrier Foundation of Canada went to visit Neo, a 6 yr. old neutered male Kerry Blue in the Montreal SPCA. He was surrendered by his owners who bought him from a pet store. Apparently, the owners did no training with him. Nadia went running with him for 10 minutes before introducing him to another dog. He seemed to be very out of shape, but after talking with Debbie, the SPCA rep, she said that Neo would stay for 8 to 10 hours alone everyday and that they didn't do any exercise with him. Neo showed no signs of aggression, but let a more rambunctious dog know to leave him along, all the while wagging his tail. (see movie clip) Keeping in mind that the owner told the SPCA that Neo was dog aggressive, I wouldn't recommend putting Neo in a house with other dogs or until we are better able to assess him. Neo is also good with children. He has a hernia but he doesn't seem to be affected by it. The veterinarian says that he wouldn't need surgery for this kind of hernia (inguinal). He received his basic vaccinations and is neutered. The SPCA is willing to hold on to him for now, but foster care in Quebec would be ideal until the right home is found. With exercise and people to take care of him Neo would be a good dog. Neo is a lovely boy who needs a home with a large fenced back yard and active adopters. He will need obedience training and socializing but he is responsive and intelligent. We are also looking for foster care for Neo so we can get him released from the SPCA where he receives little stimulation and exercise.
